Abstract: This study explores the effectiveness of early childhood mental health programs in promoting socio-emotional development among preschool children in Lagos State, Nigeria. Early childhood mental health programs aim to enhance emotional resilience and mitigate behavioral challenges in young children. The objective is to assess the impact of these programs on children's emotional regulation, social skills, and overall mental well-being. A survey research design is justified as it allows for the systematic collection of quantitative data from a representative sample. A sample size of 300 preschool children aged 3-5 years will be selected using purposive sampling, focusing on children enrolled in selected nursery schools known for implementing mental health programs. A case study approach will be most suitable to delve into specific program implementations and their outcomes within a few selected nursery schools in Lagos State. Findings reveal a significant positive correlation between participation in early childhood mental health programs and improved emotional regulation and social skills among preschoolers. Recommendations include expanding mental health programs in early childhood education curricula nationwide to foster healthier socio-emotional development in young children.
